About
Atrium Margaret Ball, Bronwen Brighton, and Carol Hicks have been working together since 2004. They meet regularly to discuss and critique their work and ideas. Their images are from darkroom, digital and alternative processes, with a shared concern to improve the quality of their photography and printing. They are all Associates of the Royal Photographic Society. They all see their primary output as the photographic print and prepare their prints to conservation standards using pigment inks and fine art papers. If you are interested in purchasing a print please use the contact page. Margaret Ball Architecture has always held a fascination, and for me, the appeal of photographing buildings is about creating an image from the different aspects of the architectural design within the building. Many interesting viewpoints can be found when looking at the subject selectively, I like to make use of curves, angles, perspective and symmetry, as well as the repetitive elements of stairs, windows and columns. All my photographs are taken on black and white film which I process myself, and after several years printing in the darkroom, I now scan my negatives into the computer and work in the ‘light room’ to produce black and white and individually toned and coloured images, they are then printed using pigment inks on fine art archival paper. Bronwen Brighton Nearly all my prints are of found images. I am generally more concerned with producing an interesting image in terms of composition than in subject matter per se. However, there are a number of longer term themes running through my work e.g. the museum series. I have been working digitally for some time now and enjoy the challenge, flexibility and control afforded by digital work. I would like to think that my prints are still recognisable as photographic images and incline towards enhancement and correction, rather than manipulation, in digital editing. Carol Hicks I originally trained as a painter but now use the camera to compose images which reflect the sensitivity of my chosen subject matter. My passion is photographing flowers and vegetables using simple upright compositions to evoke a sense of stillness and time, making the ordinary, extraordinary. When printing images I like to select and hand-coat different archival watercolour paper to produce individual prints using archival inks. |
